CME Sets Launch Date for Options on Its Bitcoin Futures to January 2020

According to a press release of CME Group, the world's leading derivatives marketplace, announced options on its Bitcoin futures contracts will be available for trading starting Jan 13, 2020.

? The primary difference between futures and options is that the contract holder is obligated to sell a futures contract on the expiry date. With options there is no obligation to sell the contract on expiry, giving greater flexibility which of course may impact market prices.

CME launched Bitcoin futures contracts in Dec 2017.  Launch of CME BTC options will increase liquidity for Bitcoin markets which will be bullish for long term BTC prices.

Current key numbers of BTC CME futures:

?Average daily volume of 6,500+ contracts in 2019, equivalent to about 32,500 bitcoin.
?22 successful futures expiration settlements since launch.
?3,500+ individual accounts trading.
?47 percent of the trading volume is from outside the U.S.
